The heart chakra, located in the middle of the chest, is one of the seven main energy centers of the body. These energy centers are aligned along the spine, starting at the base of the spine (root chakra) going up to the top of the head (crown chakra). The word chakra comes from the Sanskrit word chakram, meaning wheel. When energy is flowing smoothly, or unobstructed, through all of the body’s chakras, health is balanced. If not, the result could be an illness of the body, mind or soul.
People who work in the healing arts, such as Reiki, acupuncture or crystal therapy, focus on these energy centers in their sessions. They are able to determine which methods are best to bring energy back in to balance,
Crystals are often used in this type of work and can also be used by an untrained individual at home. Rose quartz crystal is a beautiful, gentle healer of the heart chakra and nervous system. It also works on the thymus gland and immune system.
Where to Find Rose Quartz Crystals
Crystals appear in nature in many shapes and sizes and in a wide range of colours. Fist sized in its natural form, most rose quartz is found in Madagascar, Brazil, USA and Austria. It can be a very light pink, almost white, or a deep pink, and sometimes different shades of pink can be found in the same piece. Intensity of colour does not affect the healing properties of the stone; one just has to choose the crystal which feels right to them.
Rose quartz crystals can be found in specialty shops, health or natural food stores, and online. However, it is best to buy in person as choosing a crystal can be a highly personal experience. Always buy the best quality possible. It can be purchased in its raw natural form, as a smoother tumbled stone or worked into jewelry.
Ancient cultures prized crystals for both their healing properties and for their beauty. The same applies today.
Using Rose Quartz Crystal for Heart Chakra Healing
There are many ways to use crystals for healing. It is always best to have the chosen crystal close to or on the related chakra. One may choose to wear a piece of rose quartz jewelry, perhaps a pendant which hangs over the heart area.
For a more focused experience, lay down with a piece of raw or tumbled rose quartz crystal placed on the heart chakra. This is best done in a peaceful, quiet place when time is not pressing. Rest and breathe deeply but easily for 10 to 30 minutes. Visualize the heart opening to happiness and love, remembering that love includes self-love. Working with rose quartz may facilitate an opening of the heart chakra which causes a release of past trauma and for tears to flow.
A piece of rose quartz can be placed beside the bed, under the pillow, or displayed in a special place in the home. It is an excellent stone for children and can be placed in their bedroom. It is sometimes available in the shape of a heart, or as a round or oval touchstone. These are good to place in a pocket to be rubbed when feeling anxious or sad.
Rose Crystal Care and Cleansing
Crystals can pass through many hands before arriving in the store or one’s home. It is best to perform a cleansing ritual of some sort before using any crystal for personal healing. Due to their natural composition, not all can be cleansed in the same ways.
Rose quartz crystal can be cleansed by holding it under the running water of a tap or stream. While doing so, imagine any negative, non-beneficial energies being washed off and going down the drain. Then envision the crystal being bathed in a warm, loving light. Rose quartz can also be cleansed by exposure to the full moon. Avoid direct sunlight as that can cause rose quartz to fade. It is recommended to do a cleansing ritual weekly or after a particularly intense session.
Crystals with sharp edges or points can scratch other stones; wrap them carefully in soft cloth first.
When properly taken care of, a rose quartz crystal will never run out of loving energy. It offers a limitless supply of support and healing for the heart chakra.
